Just like looking into a mirror

Gifts matter a lot less to me these days - not just because I'm old and jaded, but because things matter less. I like them, yes, but I can wait for them. The important thing is love. (artbroken)

I probably would have written "people" instead of "love" but apart from that this sentence does sound so much like what I am thinking these days that it scares me somewhat. As does this other snippet from the same Livejournal which is also so fucking right:

You don't have to see people in person to communicate with them. The ones you love can be in another suburb, time zone or tectonic plate, but you still hear their voices when you listen inside.

And this sounds like a description of me:

See, this is why people never ask me how I'm doing. They're frightened I'll answer them.

Go read all the other stuff artbroken has to say. Judging by the stuff he writes, he's a great guy. Unfortunately, I never met him but I would really like to change this someday. Well, some time when I'm wealthy enough to go to Melbourne just for the heck of it, I probably will.

People who like it a little bit more fictional than philosophical should check out his series Welcome to the Hotel Flamingo. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's almost great. And it only keeps getting better. Too bad the end of this fun little series of short prose pieces is drawing near.

Go! Read! Enjoy!
